Man Boobs (Gynaecomastia) | Cosmos Clinic Adelaide
What is Gynaecomastia?
Man Boobs also known as Gynaecomastia is a body concern that many men suffer with. Gynaecomastia means that a male has an over development of glandular tissue, a.k.a breast tissue, not just fat. If a man has Gynaecomastia, there is no amount of diet or exercise that will reduce the size of a man’s breasts.
What causes Man Boobs?
While it is completely normal for men to have a mixture of both the male hormone (testosterone) and the female hormone (oestrogen), man boobs occur when there is an imbalance in these levels and there is a higher level of oestrogen. Once glandular tissue has developed, medication cannot help reverse the effects, although some medication can bring hormones back into balance to prevent further growth. The only way to have man boobs removed is through surgery.
*Results may vary from patient to patient
What are the treatment options for Gynaecomastia?
At Cosmos Clinic, we use the latest in Liposuction techniques for the treatment of Man Boobs. Only a light sedation is required and local anaesthetic used to numb the area around the chest. The gentle, efficient nature of this procedure ensures that recovery is quick with minimal downtime. Tiny incisions also mean that the procedure is quite pain-free and scarring is almost non-existent. Recovery is quick with patients returning to normal activities within 2 to 3 days (*Results can vary from patient to patient).
How long until you see a result?
Straight after your surgery you will be able to notice a dramatic difference. After this, there will be some swelling, and as your chest heals it will reduce in size even further. Swelling will be minimal at about 3-4 weeks after surgery, although your chest may still be hard as your body is still healing. Final results should show between 3-6 months (*Results can vary from patient to patient). That being said, from day one after your surgery, your chest will look much better than it did beforehand, and it will continue to improve as it heals.
Will your Man Boobs come back?
No. The removal of excess fat and gland is permanent and they will not recur.
Will anyone know you have had Male Breast Reduction surgery?
Not unless you tell them. Scarring is minimal, tiny 5mm incisions are made, 1-2 on each side of the chest, which just look like mosquito bites as they heal. There may also be an incision made in your nipples, once healed these will be invisible as they are hidden on the perimeter of the nipple. You will be required to wear a tight support garment after the surgery to minimize swelling and speed up your recovery. The garment it is made of a thin, bike-pant style of material and is not noticeable under a shirt.
How much does Male Breast Reduction surgery cost?
Although pricing can vary, the average out of pocket cost to treat Man Boobs is approximately $5,000. The initial cost of your consultation is $120-$150 however this is fully refundable when you proceed with any treatment.
